Loto du patrimoine selects Château de Paley for restoration

🇫🇷 22 May 2026

The Château de Paley, a medieval monument in Seine-et-Marne, has been chosen for this year’s Loto du patrimoine. The selection paves the way for a full restoration of the castle and its 2.8‑hectare estate before it can be opened to visitors.

The castle lies just an hour from Paris, in the Île‑de‑France region, making it easily reachable for the capital’s residents and tourists. Its proximity to the city has been highlighted as an advantage for future public access.

The Château de Paley dates back to the medieval period and stands as a witness to the region’s historic architecture. Its stone walls and layout exemplify the defensive structures built in the Middle Ages.

Inclusion in the Loto du patrimoine programme means the site will receive funding and oversight aimed at preserving French heritage. The lottery’s goal is to channel resources toward monuments that need urgent repair.

The planned works will cover the entire castle and the surrounding grounds, ensuring structural stability and aesthetic renewal. Restoration will be comprehensive, addressing both the building fabric and the landscape.

Once the restoration is complete, the Château de Paley is expected to open its doors to the public, potentially hosting a dedicated space for video‑game culture. The prospect of a “video‑game temple” has been mentioned as a possible new use for the historic site.
