West Ham United Edge Closer to Relegation After 3-1 Loss at Newcastle

🇬🇧 18 May 2026

West Ham United suffered a 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United, leaving them in 18th place in the Premier League. The loss brings the club's relegation battle closer.

Newcastle built a 2-0 lead by halftime through goals from Nick Woltemade and William Osula. Osula added a third goal early in the second half to make it 3-0.

West Ham fought back when Valentin Castellanos scored with a fine volley, and he later struck the post again. Crysencio Summerville started for the Hammers but had little influence on the game.

West Ham returned to the top flight in 2012 after winning the promotion play-offs following a year away. The club has struggled to secure safety since that promotion.

The Hammers can only avoid relegation if Tottenham Hotspur defeats Chelsea on Monday or if they secure a win against Everton next Sunday. Their fate now depends on those results.

West Ham's final league match is a home game against Leeds United. The fixture will be their last opportunity to climb out of the relegation zone.

The club faces a decisive period as they aim to preserve their Premier League status. Their performance in the remaining games will determine their future.
