Liverpool’s exodus forces Reds to confront a shifting market

🇬🇧

Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate all left Liverpool this summer, leaving the Reds with significant gaps in defence and attack. The club now faces the task of rebuilding the squad at considerable expense and must seek replacements quickly.

Arne Slot’s departure as head coach came as a shock, despite the club’s public backing. Andoni Iraola has since taken over the role at Liverpool.

Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director, is expected to leave for Al-Hilal, with Saudi Arabian and English outlets reporting the move. The departure adds another high‑profile exit for the Reds.

Steve Francis, Hughes’ long‑time assistant, is already at Al‑Hilal, and the expectation is that Hughes will follow. This situation puts immediate pressure on Iraola, as the man who hired him prepares to leave.

Senior figures at Anfield reportedly view the situation as business as usual, believing Hughes will fulfil his duties despite an uncertain long‑term future. The Athletic noted there are no concerns about his planning.

For Liverpool, the summer has been far from stellar, highlighted by the failure to agree a new contract with Konate and the lack of a senior replacement. The club will need a rapid turnaround to steady the ship.

The move to Al‑Hilal reflects a broader trend of Saudi clubs attracting European staff, underscoring the shifting market dynamics that Liverpool must navigate.
