Liverpool's winger dilemma widens as Diomande exit looms

🇬🇧
Liverpool have a clear need for a fast, one‑v‑one winger after Mohamed Salah is set to leave and Federico Chiesa is expected to follow, leaving the Anfield club short on options out wide. Richard Hughes must fill that gap before preseason begins. Yan Diomande, the 19‑year‑old attacker, was Liverpool's declared priority, but a €100m bid failed to convince RB Leipzig. Paris Saint‑Germain is believed to be willing to wait until 2027 for his signature if he departs Leipzig. Liverpool reportedly prepared a second offer using the German‑record fee Barcelona paid Borussia Dortmund for Ousmane Dembele in 2017 as a benchmark, yet the German side remained unmoved. The club's pursuit of Diomande now appears futile given the forward's preference for the double European champions. Bradley Barcola, the 23‑year‑old Paris Saint‑Germain attacker, emerges as a potential replacement. With only two years left on his contract, PSG’s asking price of around £130m is high, and his wasteful finishing in the UEFA Champions League final raises questions about his fit. Said El Mala, a 19‑year‑old Koln striker, recorded 13 goals and four assists in the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, a club record. Koln have set a reported €50m price tag, but his contract runs to 2030 and he prefers to play on the left. Rayan, the 19‑year‑old Brazil international, joined Bournemouth from Vasco da Gama for roughly £26m and scored five goals with two assists in 15 Premier League matches. A clause worth around £130m activates in January 2027, and his opposite‑foot style mirrors a younger Mohamed Salah. Both Richard Hughes and Andoni Iraola will need to decide quickly, balancing steep fees and contract lengths against the urgent need for width. The high price tags and lingering uncertainties could delay any summer signing.
