Eastleigh gamble on Sidwell's pedigree as loan arrives
Eastleigh have secured the services of 20‑year‑old AFC Wimbledon midfielder Harry Sidwell on a season‑long loan, with the deal running until the end of the campaign. The National League side confirmed the move on Tuesday, adding that the midfielder also signed a fresh one‑year contract with his parent club, Wimbledon, which includes an option for a further year.
Eastleigh's recruitment staff highlighted Sidwell's football lineage, noting that he is the son of former Reading, Chelsea, Fulham and Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell. The club hopes his background will translate into on‑field maturity for the National League campaign.
Sidwell brings limited senior experience, having made a single first‑team appearance for Wimbledon, but he has accumulated game time during loan spells with Enfield Town, Dagenham & Redbridge and Dorking Wanderers. Those stints in lower divisions have given him exposure to the physical demands of senior football.
Speaking to Eastleigh's official website, Sidwell said, "I want to perform as best as I can for the team, finish as high as possible in the league, contribute with goals and assists, and also do the defensive work."
The loan gives Eastleigh a young midfielder eager to help the club climb the National League table, while Wimbledon retain control of his future through the newly signed one‑year contract with an additional year option.
