Real Madrid’s dual overhaul: new signings and a departing doctor

Real Madrid’s summer overhaul is now marked by the resignation of first‑team doctor Manuel Arroyo, who submitted his notice after joining the club last year. The club simultaneously pushes ahead with a new on‑field project, reinstating Jose Mourinho as head coach following Alvaro Arbeloa’s departure.

Madrid has already secured four new players: Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva. The only departure so far is midfielder Dani Ceballos, who left the squad during the same window.

Club officials indicate that additional adjustments to the roster are likely in the coming weeks and months. These moves aim to erase the difficulties of the last two seasons and restore the team to winning form.

Manuel Arroyo arrived from Granada FC, where he had previously worked alongside Felipe Segura. Segura was promoted to head of Real Madrid’s medical services in 2023, taking over from Niko Mihic.

Niko Mihic returned to the club last season as the team endured an injury crisis that lasted most of the campaign. The medical staff’s challenges were highlighted by Arroyo’s incorrect diagnosis of Kylian Mbappe’s knee problem.

Real Madrid has not released an official comment on Arroyo’s resignation, and the reasons remain undisclosed. If the resignation is confirmed, it will represent another major shift in a department already under scrutiny after recent injury woes. The twin overhaul of coaching, player recruitment and medical leadership suggests the club is preparing a comprehensive reset for the upcoming season.
