Six-million-euro deal: Club Brugge finally land first summer signing

🇧🇪

At the Jan Breydel Stadium, the blue-and-black corridors hum with the sound of fax machines and contract signatures. A 19-year-old Swiss midfielder is about to become Club Brugge’s first summer arrival, and the paperwork is in its final stages.

Cheveyo Tsawa, a 19-year-old midfielder, will join the Venise du Nord outfit from FC Zürich for a fee of six million euros plus add-ons. The deal caps weeks of behind-the-scenes talks that began in January, when Club Brugge first entered the frame.

According to Dutch-language colleagues at Het , Club Brugge are finalising the arrival of Tsawa, who had already agreed personal terms with the Belgian club earlier this year. The Swiss club’s patience has now run out, and the transfer is set to be rubber-stamped.

Tsawa’s versatility allows him to play anywhere across the midfield, mirroring the journeys of Ardon Jashari and Aleksandar Stankovic—both of whom announced themselves at the Jan Breydel after shining in Switzerland. Club Brugge have already lost Stankovic, Zaid Romero, Dani Van den Heuvel and, most notably, Simon Mignolet to retirement.

The Belgian champions still face a busy week of squad-building before the Supercup of Belgium on 31 July, which they will host against Union Saint-Gilloise at home.

Ivan Leko’s squad is expected to see further reinforcements arrive in the coming days, with the new arrival slotting into a reshaped midfield picture.

Club Brugge’s summer spending spree now has its first concrete line item: six million euros for a teenager who arrives with Champions League experience under his belt.

The Swiss midfielder’s arrival is the clearest sign yet that Leko’s side are prioritising youth and potential in a summer that has already seen departures mount up.

With the Supercup just days away, the club’s recruitment team are working against the clock to add more depth before the competitive curtain rises.

Tsawa’s move also underscores the growing pipeline between Swiss clubs and Club Brugge, a route that has produced Jashari and Stankovic in recent years.

For the teenager, the step up is immediate: six-figure wages, Champions League football, and the weight of expectation at a club that demands instant impact.

The paperwork is almost done; the only remaining question is how quickly he can adapt to life in Venise du Nord.
