Tottenham’s goalkeeper gamble: Kinsky’s contract seals a new era
Tottenham Hotspur have secured the future of Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky with a new contract after his rapid rise from a March Champions League collapse to becoming a key figure in the club’s fight for Premier League survival. The 23‑year‑old’s turnaround coincides with the departure of Italy’s Guglielmo Vicario and the arrival of veteran Martin Dubravka, leaving the club eager to cement a long‑term solution between the posts.
Kinsky made two glaring errors and was substituted after 16 minutes by then‑manager Igor Tudor as Tottenham suffered a 5‑2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. That performance highlighted a glaring vulnerability in the goalkeeper position.
Since Roberto De Zerbi took over in April, Kinsky has featured in all seven of Tottenham’s final league matches, helping secure their Premier League status. Notably he delivered an impressive performance in the 1‑1 home draw with Leeds United and kept a clean sheet against Everton on the season’s final day.
Kinsky expressed his happiness on the club’s website, saying he feels the trust from Tottenham and that his aim is to give fans what they deserve. He reflected on his 18‑month journey from fighting for a place to committing his future to the club.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi praised Kinsky, calling him outstanding over the last seven games and emphasizing his professionalism, desire to improve and enormous potential. De Zerbi added that Tottenham is the perfect environment for Kinsky to develop into one of Europe’s best goalkeepers.
With Vicario expected to leave and Dubravka providing competition, Kinsky now faces the challenge of securing the number‑one spot while maintaining consistency. The upcoming season will test his ability to translate his recent form into a sustained claim for the starting role.
