Van den Brom hails Weghorst as catalyst for Twente's rise

FC Twente have secured the signing of striker Wout Weghorst, with head coach John van den Brom confirming on Saturday that the Dutch forward will bring immediate quality to the squad. He praised the player's fitness and character, saying the move eliminates any doubt about his sporting value for Twente.

The previous season proved difficult for Weghorst at Ajax, where his contributions were limited. Van den Brom noted that the striker usually remains "superfit" when fully available.

"No discussion for me," van den Brom declared, emphasizing his certainty about Weghorst's impact. He added, "I know how he is and what he can do."

Van den Brom said he had observed Weghorst during matches between FC Twente and Ajax, noting that the forward's playing style and temperament matched exactly what Twente were seeking. He recalled that their conversations always suggested a successful transfer.

The coach admitted he felt some hesitation, comparing the situation to his own contract extension where prolonged negotiations bred uncertainty. He explained that Weghorst had other options, but is now clear in his choice.
