Wim Jonk eyes fresh head‑coach challenge as Oranje reshuffles staff

🇳🇱

In a quiet Zeist office, Wim Jonk watches the fallout from Oranje’s latest upheaval. On Tuesday 30 June, Ronald Koeman announced via Instagram that he will leave his role as coach of the Nederlands elftal, prompting the staff to consider new paths.

The following Friday, 3 July, several members of Koeman’s staff were summoned to meet Nigel de Jong in Zeist, according to the AD. Both Erwin Koeman and Wim Jonk sat down with De Jong to discuss their futures.

Ruud van Nistelrooij and keeper‑trainer Patrick Lodewijks, however, had not yet attended the discussion, as reported by the Algemeen Dagblad.

Koeman’s farewell note also revealed that his brother Erwin intends to step away from football. The statement quoted Erwin’s earlier decision to retire after the WK and noted that, at 64, he may seek an adventure abroad.

The coaching team surrounding Ronald Koeman comprised Jonk, Van Nistelrooij and Lodewijks, all of whose contracts are set to expire. The Algemeen Dagblad added that Jonk is already looking for a fresh head‑coach opportunity.

Jonk’s résumé includes several seasons as head coach of FC Volendam, a role he took after departing the Ajax youth academy.
