Yamal's brilliance forces Wim Kieft to liken him to Messi

🇪🇸
Former Dutch striker Wim Kieft lauded Spain’s 18‑year‑old Lamine Yamal at the World Cup, saying the youngster’s performances echo those of Lionel Messi and other legends, and that without Yamal Spain would look very different. He highlighted Yamal’s flash actions, discipline and ability to stay wide on the right, which create constant threat. Yamal is only 18, yet he has already become a European champion, won three league titles with Barcelona, the Spanish Cup and two Super Cups. Kieft notes that Messi was just beginning his career at that age. "With all the attention, the influence of social media and what young stars face today, it is even more intense than when Messi broke through," Kieft says. He adds that Yamal handles this pressure remarkably well. "Without Yamal you would have a very different Spain," Kieft writes. "His flash actions, discipline and ability to stay wide on the right create constant threat. He does things you think cannot be done, just like Messi, Ronaldo, Romario and the Brazilian Ronaldo." Kieft also highlights Spain’s midfield powerhouse Rodri, describing him as a player who always accelerates the game. He calls Rodri a personality who excels in duels, pressing and is worth gold for Spain. The Dutch veteran believes Rodri will be crucial against Portugal. Portugal will meet Spain on Monday, and Kieft warns they will have to brace for a tough confrontation.
