Bellingham’s World Cup surge fuels talk on Mourinho’s Real role

🇬🇧
Jude Bellingham’s explosive World Cup display for England, highlighted by a goal and an assist against Panama, has sparked speculation about his role under incoming Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, after the midfielder said he plays deeper at his club. At the tournament opener against Croatia, Bellingham scored and earned man of the match honours. He repeated the accolade in the draw with Ghana and later added a goal and an assist in the win over Panama. The Englishman secured his third consecutive MVP award of the World Cup. When asked if this version of him was the best of the season, he replied, “I don’t know. I don’t know if this Bellingham is the best of the season. Hopefully for the rest (of the tournament) we can have the best Bellingham,” as quoted by AS. Bellingham said England were more clinical in the second half and that he feels a responsibility to lift the team to a higher level. He described the half‑time shift as a fresh approach compared with the opening 45 minutes. He praised his growing partnership with Harry Kane, noting they have built a good relationship over the past four or five years, especially after Qatar. “He is the best player in England of all time… We don’t doubt him at all wherever he’s involved, he makes the difference as he is today,” he added. Bellingham explained that at Real Madrid he operates deeper on the pitch, whereas for England he plays as a number 10 or occasionally an 8, a more advanced role. “I don’t care where I play on the field, the position. I always want to play well for my team,” he said. With Jose Mourinho set to take over as Real Madrid’s new manager, observers will watch how he chooses to utilise the talismanic midfielder. The contrast between Bellingham’s deeper club duties and his attacking national‑team role adds intrigue to the upcoming season.
