Bournemouth eye Richard Ríos as midfield market heats up

🇬🇧 yesterday

Bournemouth have entered the pursuit of 26‑year‑old Colombian midfielder Richard Ríos, with the Premier League club now listed alongside Manchester United, Fulham, Napoli, Milan, Inter and Roma as potential suitors for the Benfica player, “not certain” to remain at Benfica, a notable shift from earlier suggestions of a secure future in Lisbon. The uncertainty arrives as Marco Rose prepares for his first transfer window in charge of Bournemouth.

Ríos combines athleticism, technical quality and tactical flexibility, traits that have attracted interest from clubs across multiple leagues. Former Portugal international Maniche has said the midfielder’s qualities are well suited to the demands of English football.

Reports suggest Benfica could entertain offers between €30 million and €45 million, roughly £26 million to £39 million. Such a price reflects the current market for established international midfielders.

Benfica had hoped the 2026 World Cup would lift Ríos’ market value, but the tournament produced a quieter outcome than expected. Colombia’s campaign saw Ríos largely used as a substitute rather than a regular starter, limiting any dramatic valuation increase.

Bournemouth’s recruitment strategy, praised for identifying players who can develop in the Premier League, now includes Ríos as a potential addition under Rose’s aggressive style. Competing with clubs such as Napoli, Milan and Manchester United will test Bournemouth’s financial discipline, but the club’s willingness to act on identified targets remains evident. If Benfica opens negotiations, Bournemouth will have to decide whether Ríos offers outstanding value or if comparable alternatives exist elsewhere.
