Heracles offers comeback platform for ex-PSV striker Fodé Fofana

🇳🇱

On Thursday afternoon at 17:38, 23‑year‑old striker Fodé Fofana stepped onto the training ground of Heracles Almelo, marking his first appearance with the club after three years of rehabilitation and a year without a contract. The former PSV talent, who last played competitively on 27 September 2023, now has a chance to regain fitness in Almelo.

Fofana has been clubless for a year, his career stalled by a severe injury sustained while on loan at Vitesse from PSV. The injury occurred in his third appearance for Vitesse, prompting an extended period of recovery.

His last official match took place on 27 September 2023, after which the striker suffered a heavy leg injury that left him without sensation for an extended time. The three‑year rehabilitation saw him doubt the feeling in his leg would ever return.

During his time out, Fofana’s contract with PSV was set to expire in the summer of 2025. The prolonged absence meant he missed the remainder of his PSV deal while focusing on recovery.

Earlier this month, Fofana announced that his rehabilitation was complete and he was ready to return to competitive football. He will train with Heracles in the coming weeks under head coach Vincent Heilmann and technical director Ernest Faber, both of whom worked with him during his PSV youth days.

Heracles Almelo have not confirmed whether they will offer Fofana a permanent contract should his trial be successful. The club is currently competing in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, aiming for promotion after relegation from the Eredivisie last season.
