Tottenham's left‑wing gap drives chase for Liverpool's Cody Gakpo

Tottenham Hotspur need to reinforce a waning left side as they aim to broaden attacking options under Roberto De Zerbi, and Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo emerges as a prime target. The 27‑year‑old Dutchman logged nine goals and six assists in 52 appearances last season, and Spurs are monitoring his situation for a move later this year.

Alfredo Pedulla reported that Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a keen eye on Gakpo as a potential addition. While the Dutch winger struggled for consistency in the previous Premier League campaign, he delivered a series of impressive displays on the left flank toward the end of the season.

Cody Gakpo is regarded as one of the most talented wide men currently in the Premier League. His versatility allows him to operate primarily as a left‑winger but also to function as a centre‑forward when required.

Gakpo’s contract at Anfield runs until the summer of 2030, meaning Tottenham would likely need to meet a substantial fee rather than secure a cut‑price deal this off‑season. The long‑term contract therefore adds a financial obstacle to the North London club’s pursuit.

The Dutch forward combines strong dribbling with vision to create chances, and he can strike the ball with venom and precision from distance. His ability to both score and assist enhances the quality and depth of any attacking line‑up.

Having already amassed a full Premier League season, Gakpo is familiar with the league’s pace and would not require a lengthy adaptation period at Tottenham. Roberto De Zerbi can therefore expect him to challenge for a regular first‑team spot quickly.

De Zerbi would be wise to move for Gakpo before the summer transfer window closes, although negotiating a fee that reflects the 2030 contract expiry may prove challenging. Securing the Dutch winger could provide Tottenham with the left‑wing reinforcement they have been seeking.
