Van der Gijp impressed by Douvikas and Malen's Serie A exploits

René van der Gijp expressed his admiration for former Utrecht striker Anastasios Douvikas after seeing the Greek forward top the Serie A scoring charts alongside Donyell Malen of AS Roma.

The Dutch pundit highlighted Douvikas’ form while reviewing the league’s top scorers, noting the forward’s impact since joining Como in summer 2023. Malen, meanwhile, continues his prolific run in Rome’s attack under Daniele De Rossi.

Van der Gijp emphasized the rarity of seeing two Dutch-affiliated players among Italy’s elite strikers. Douvikas scored 15 goals in 26 Serie A appearances last season for Utrecht before his move to Como.

The pundit’s comments came during a segment on Dutch football television, where Serie A performances were compared to Eredivisie standards. Como currently sit 12th in Serie A with 28 points from 26 games.

AS Roma holds fourth place with 54 points, while Utrecht finished 12th in the Eredivisie last season.
