€28m price tag frames Radu Drăgușin’s Fiorentina loan

🇬🇧

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to send 24‑year‑old Romanian centre‑back Radu Drăgușin to Fiorentina on a one‑year €1.5 million loan, with an obligation to buy for €17.5 million next summer, as part of a deal facilitated by sporting director Fabio Paratici.

The agreement sets a one‑year loan fee of €1.5 million, after which Fiorentina are contractually bound to purchase Drăgușin for €17.5 million in the summer of 2026. The permanent fee will be payable only after the loan period, giving the Italian side time to assess the defender.

Sporting director Fabio Paratici orchestrated the move. Paratici had previously arranged Drăgușin’s transfer from Juventus to Tottenham Hotspur in January 2024 for €28 million, highlighting his continued influence on the player’s career path. His actions are often compared with the strategic direction set by chief executive Beppe Marotta at Fiorentina.

The 24‑year‑old Romanian arrives in Florence after a season with minimal game time. A cruciate ligament tear sidelined him for much of the 2024/25 campaign, and he managed only 11 appearances in the 2025/26 season.

Tottenham benefit by recouping a large portion of their €28 million outlay. The loan fee and future purchase price together return a substantial amount of the original investment.

Fiorentina gain a Serie A‑proven centre‑back at a reduced cost. The club will not need to fund the €17.5 million transfer until next summer, when they hope their financial situation will have improved.

The deal exemplifies a broader market trend where clubs use loan‑with‑obligation structures to mitigate risk while securing talent. Such arrangements allow both buying and selling clubs to balance immediate cash flow with long‑term squad planning.
