City rules out Nmecha as midfield target, eyes new options
Manchester City have ruled out signing German midfielder Felix Nmecha from Borussia Dortmund, confirming the club’s lack of interest despite earlier speculation linking the Premier League champions with the player this summer in the transfer window.
Intermediaries had reportedly approached City, alongside Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, about a possible move for Nmecha from Borussia Dortmund, as noted by TeamTalk reporter Graeme Bailey. The German international’s physical attributes and playing style were considered well‑suited to the Premier League.
City are on the verge of completing a midfield rebuild by signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, a move that would add a versatile midfielder to their ranks. With Anderson’s arrival, the club still seeks an additional midfield option to deepen the squad.
Manchester City’s midfield gamble hinges on loan‑back of Ayyoub Bouaddi
Nmecha’s performances for Germany at the ongoing World Cup suggested he possessed the quality to slot into City’s midfield. His prior experience in Manchester City’s academy also gave him familiarity with the club’s environment. Simon Bajkowski’s latest report Manchester City have excluded Nmecha from their summer target list. Consequently, the German midfielder can now be taken off the board as a potential signing for the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali and Lille’s Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi have emerged as City’s most likely alternatives. It remains unclear whether manager Hugo Viana has another midfielder in mind. By dismissing Nmecha, City keep their options open while maintaining focus on other candidates. For Nmecha, the decision means he will remain at Borussia Dortmund this summer.
