Free transfer boost: Oxford United sign veteran defender Frankie Kent

🇬🇧

Oxford United have secured former Hearts centre‑back Frankie Kent on a free transfer, adding a 30‑year‑old defender who has logged 349 league games and 13 goals across his career, including 95 appearances and four goals for Hearts and stints at Colchester United and Peterborough United.

Kent spent three seasons at Tynecastle, where he featured in 95 league matches and found the net four times. He also appeared 25 times in the most recent campaign as Hearts narrowly missed out on the Scottish Premiership crown.

His professional journey began at Colchester United, where he amassed 141 league appearances. He then moved to Peterborough United, adding 149 league games over four seasons to his résumé.

Hearts released Kent in the summer, making him a free agent. Oxford United announced him as their first signing since former Arsenal and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey took over as head coach.

Kent told the club website, "I understand the demands of this league and I return to England a much better player and leader following three fantastic years in Scotland." He emphasized his readiness to meet the challenges of League One.

Ramsey said, "I had very positive conversations with the club before arriving about the business we wanted to complete this summer, and I’m delighted we’ve moved quickly to bring in a player of Frankie’s quality and character." The manager highlighted Kent’s leadership and experience as key assets.

Oxford United compete in England’s League One, aiming to strengthen their defence ahead of the new season. The addition of Kent adds depth and veteran presence to a squad still shaping under Ramsey’s direction.
