Khaldoon Al Mubarak warns that Maresca’s big challenge scares many

🇬🇧

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak laid out the central dilemma of appointing Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager, describing the role as a “big challenge” that “scares off many people”. He emphasized that Maresca’s appetite for the challenge sets him apart.

Maresca returns to Manchester City after two earlier spells: first working within the club’s academy and later serving as Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach. Both experiences shape his familiarity with the club’s culture.

Khaldoon said, “He is one of Pep’s assistants at one point in his career so definitely – he will tell you – he is going to have taken a lot of inspiration in the philosophy of Pep, and you see that in his football.” He added that Maresca has also developed his own distinct philosophy.

Khaldoon continued, “I am very excited about Enzo and I think the fans will appreciate him as a manager, his football philosophy, his football and how the team is going to perform and go from strength to strength with Maresca’s leadership.” He believes the manager will be a great addition to the team.

He noted, “This is a big challenge – this scares off many people.” The chairman sees the difficulty as a test that few are willing to accept.

Khaldoon concluded, “The beauty with Enzo is he actually wants that challenge, he loves that challenge.” He expressed confidence that Maresca will thrive under pressure.
