Newcastle's midfield gamble: £77m price tag on Guimaraes

🇬🇧

Newcastle United face a midfield void after Anthony Gordon departed for Barcelona for £69 million and Sandro Tonali is set to join Tottenham Hotspur in a £100 million deal. Arsenal have identified Bruno Guimaraes as a prime target to fill that gap, and Newcastle have placed a £77 million price tag on the Brazilian midfielder.

The Gunners are keen to strengthen their central midfield options and have singled out Guimaraes as an ideal addition. Newcastle view the Brazilian as one of the Premier League’s best midfielders since his arrival in 2022.

Newcastle recently turned down a verbal offer from Arsenal valued at less than £60 million. Club officials reiterated that Guimaraes is not for sale this summer.

A report indicates the Tyneside club could sanction a move if a £77 million bid materialises. Such a fee would match the club’s valuation of the midfielder.

Guimaraes has recorded 31 goals and 32 assists across 195 appearances for Newcastle. He also played a key role in the Magpies’ Carabao Cup triumph in the 2024‑25 season.

The 28‑year‑old is contracted until 2028, with an option to extend for an additional year. Eddie Howe’s side says there is no pressure to sell, despite the looming departures.
