Real Madrid’s midfield hunt: Nmecha emerges as Mourinho’s backup plan

🇪🇸
Real Madrid have launched an initial enquiry for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, according to journalist José Félix Díaz, who cited a German source. The 25‑year‑old German international, praised for his World Cup performances, is now on the Spanish giants’ radar as they seek midfield reinforcements. Mourinho's incoming role at Real Madrid includes strengthening central midfield as a summer priority. Chelsea’s Argentine Enzo Fernandez is reported as the preferred target, but negotiations are expected to be extremely difficult, while Nmecha continues to feature in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund. Consequently, Real Madrid are assessing alternatives, with Nmecha emerging as a viable option. Díaz disclosed the enquiry on Ruben Martin’s YouTube channel. Nmecha, 25, fits the profile Los Blancos seek: an experienced international midfielder who combines physical strength with technical ability. His performances at the World Cup have increased his reputation among European clubs. The German international’s recent form aligns with Real Madrid’s desire for a dynamic midfield presence. Real Madrid have already completed sales of Dani Ceballos, David Alaba and Dani Carvajal this summer. The club expects further departures, with Eduardo Camavinga identified as the most likely candidate to leave. Additionally, Raul Asencio has been listed as available for transfer, creating squad space and financial flexibility for a new midfield signing. At this stage no formal negotiations have begun between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund regarding Nmecha. Real Madrid have neither confirmed nor denied the enquiry, it would give Madrid a ready‑made midfield option while Dortmund could profit from a future transfer fee.
