Saka’s World Cup milestone: two records within reach against Norway
Bukayo Saka matched two World Cup assist records with his delivery against Mexico, and now stands one pass away from breaking both. England defeated Mexico 3-2 on Sunday night, or Monday morning in the UK, with Saka providing the cross for Jude Bellingham’s headed goal in the 36th minute.
The assist was Saka’s third of the tournament, a total that now sits alongside two other Arsenal players in World Cup history. OptaJoe data shows only Dennis Bergkamp in 1998 and Martin Odegaard in 2026 have matched three assists by an Arsenal player in a single tournament.
Saka has also equalled England’s all-time World Cup assist record. Only David Beckham in 2002 and Harry Kane in 2022 have recorded three assists in a single World Cup for England. One more assist would see Saka surpass both marks.
Haaland’s double sinks Brazil as Norway reach World Cup quarter-finals
The next chance to extend his tally comes against Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday, July 11 at 22:00 BST. The fixture offers a more convenient kick-off time for UK viewers compared to the late-night Mexico win. Saka’s overall contribution stands at six goal involvements in 485 minutes, including a penalty won that led to a goal. That averages to one contribution every 81 minutes, excluding the penalty award. England’s progression to the quarter-finals sets up a clash with Norway, who defeated Japan 2-1 in their last-16 tie. Norway will arrive in Ottawa with a fully fit squad, while England will be without an injured player ruled out before the tournament.
