£116m fee forces Nottingham Forest to chase Tottenham’s Bergvall
Nottingham Forest face a £116 million gap after Elliot Anderson’s transfer to Manchester City, leaving a void in the club’s midfield authority, drive and range. The English side now target Tottenham Hotspur’s 20‑year‑old midfielder Lucas Bergvall to fill the vacancy and restore balance.
Elliot Anderson’s £116 million move to Manchester City reshaped Forest’s midfield geometry. Replacing his authority and range now dominates the club’s recruitment agenda.
Lucas Bergvall, a 20‑year‑old Swedish midfielder at Tottenham Hotspur, has emerged as Forest’s primary target. Across Europe, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Bayern Munich have also been linked to the player.
Speaking after Sweden’s 3‑0 loss to France in the World Cup round of 32, Bergvall said his priority is regular playing time. “I want continuous matches in my position. That is the only goal. We’ll see what happens in the future. I’ve only been focused on the World Cup until now,” he told Aftonbladet.
Tottenham, however, have reportedly told Bergvall he is not for sale, contradicting earlier summer rumours of his desire to leave. Since Roberto De Zerbi’s appointment in March, Bergvall has started only once and accumulated 112 minutes, limiting his platform.
Forest’s scouting also includes Davide Frattesi and Arne Engels after winter approaches fell through. The club’s midfield search therefore balances immediate need with long‑term development prospects.
With multiple elite clubs courting the same talent, competition for promising midfielders intensifies across Europe. Forest hopes securing Bergvall will provide the rhythm and responsibility required to rebuild its centre of the pitch.
