Arsenal's €20m Trossard sale: covering a versatility void

🇬🇧
Arsenal are preparing to let 31‑year‑old Belgium international Leandro Trossard depart, as his contract runs out next summer and the club seeks to recoup value before his market price falls. Reports say Besiktas have agreed a €20 million deal, structured as €18 million upfront with €2 million in add‑ons. The agreement includes wages up to around €9 million, but the transfer has not yet been completed. Arsenal originally signed Trossard from Brighton in January 2023 for £27 million, meaning a £17.1 million return would represent a tidy profit given his remaining year on the contract. In his final full season at the Emirates, Trossard made 50 appearances across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists, while starting 21 league games as Arsenal secured the Premier League title in 2025‑26. He also delivered an 83rd‑minute winner against West Ham United on May 10. The Belgian winger is currently at the World Cup with Belgium, having started all four group‑stage matches under coach Rudi Garcia. He scored twice in the 5‑1 victory over New Zealand and added an assist in the 3‑2 comeback win over Senegal, with the move unlikely to progress until the tournament ends. Overall, Trossard has logged 174 appearances for Arsenal, netting 36 goals and creating 34 assists, primarily operating on the left flank but also centrally. His most prolific season came in 2023‑24, when he scored 16 times across the Premier League and Champions League. If the deal is finalised after the World Cup, Arsenal will secure the cash but must replace his versatility and intelligence in the final third. The next steps involve completing personal terms and confirming the transfer once Belgium’s World Cup run concludes.
