Barcelona’s summer gamble: can €40m land Valencia’s Guerra?
Barcelona are weighing up a move for Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra this summer after the club’s sporting director Deco met with his agent Javi Garrido. The talks follow reports earlier this week that Guerra had emerged as a player highly rated by Barcelona’s administration and management. Barcelona have not ruled out a summer move for Guerra, though no decision has yet been taken.
Deco’s meeting with Guerra’s agent Garrido fuelled speculation that the club were considering a long-term project involving the 22-year-old. Guerra has developed into one of Spain’s highest-rated young talents this season, with his technical ability and energy drawing praise from Hansi Flick. The manager values players who can track back, a trait Guerra has demonstrated consistently.
Valencia consider Guerra a key part of their long-term project and will not make his exit straightforward. His contract includes a release clause of €40 million in July, rising to €60 million from August. Barcelona’s interest comes despite the midfield being the department they least require reinforcements in ahead of the new season.
The timing of any potential move is complicated by Guerra’s contract terms. Barcelona must decide whether to meet the €40 million valuation in July or wait until August, when the price increases. The club’s midfield priorities remain elsewhere, but Guerra’s profile aligns closely with Hansi Flick’s system requirements.
