Crawley’s two‑year gamble on Jude Arthurs amid free‑transfer surge

🇬🇧

Crawley Town have secured 24‑year‑old midfielder Jude Arthurs on a free transfer, signing him to a two‑year contract that includes an optional additional twelve months, after his contract expired with Bromley, the League Two champions. Arthurs, who made over 250 appearances for Bromley, will bring his experience to the Sussex club.

The agreement was completed without a transfer fee, reflecting Crawley's focus on cost‑effective recruitment. The contract runs for two years and grants the club the right to extend it by a further twelve months.

Arthurs, 24, left Bromley after his contract expired, making him available on a free. His departure follows Bromley's recent promotion to League Two, where he was a key figure.

During his spell at Bromley, Arthurs amassed more than 250 appearances. He helped the club secure promotion from the National League and later from League Two.

Crawley head coach Colin Kazim‑Richards praised the signing, saying, “I think this is a top signing and shows exactly where the club wants to go, and where the club's current standards are.” He added that “the energy and standards that he brings at this level are the highest, and he has even more levels to reach.”

Arthurs' free‑transfer move underscores the growing trend of lower‑league clubs securing experienced players without fees. In a market where transfer spending is tightening, such signings allow clubs like Crawley to bolster squads while maintaining financial prudence.
