Feyenoord trigger €5m clause to land Hertha goalkeeper Ernst

🇳🇱

Feyenoord have activated the €5 million release clause in the contract of Hertha BSC goalkeeper Tjark Ernst. The Rotterdam club now await a final decision from the 22-year-old German.

The reported €5 million clause means Feyenoord must wait for Ernst’s definitive answer. A personal agreement has not yet been reached, though FR12 note the goalkeeper views Rotterdam as an attractive sporting destination. The 22-year-old is weighing his options amid competition from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Celtic.

Bringing in a new goalkeeper ranks as a priority for Feyenoord this transfer summer. Timon Wellenreuther currently faces little competition in goal, while rumours suggest the club is open to a departure for the incumbent. Wellenreuther’s contract expires after the coming season, as do those of reserve keepers Liam Bossin and Mannou Berger.

Ernst has been under contract at Hertha BSC since 2022 and has impressed domestically in recent seasons. His arrival would address a clear need in De Kuip, where Feyenoord seek to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.

FR12 report the player’s representatives are in ongoing dialogue with interested parties, with Ernst yet to finalise his next move.
