Five‑year contract makes Sven Mijnans PSV’s first summer recruit
A five‑year contract sees 26‑year‑old midfielder Sven Mijnans move from AZ to PSV, with the deal signed in Eindhoven, marking his first summer reinforcement for the Dutch giants and committing him until 2029, after a successful spell in Alkmaar where he featured prominently.
Mijnans arrived in Alkmaar in 2020 after transferring from Sparta, quickly establishing himself in the midfield. He accumulated 155 appearances for AZ and found the net 42 times during his spell.
Last season, the 26‑year‑old captained AZ to the KNVB‑beker trophy. His leadership was a key factor in the cup triumph.
Míchel pushed limits to hijack PSV deal for Mijnans at last moment
AZ and PSV will meet on 2 August in the Johan Cruijff Schaal showdown. The fixture offers Mijnans a chance to face his new club in a season‑opening contest. "Dit voelt als de perfecte vervolgstap in mijn carrière," says Sven Mijnans. He added that PSV provides a clear vision, strong leadership and top facilities, and that the squad aims for a fourth consecutive league title. Mijnans is the first summer signing for PSV, confirming the club’s recruitment plan. Directeur Voetbalzaken Earnest Stewart said, "We volgen Sven al jaren en zien dat hij nog steeds elk seizoen een flinke stap voorwaarts maakt. Hij is een slimme, veelzijdige middenvelder met een groot loopvermogen."
