Guardiola’s Oranje link: one camp rules it out, another keeps hope alive
The Dutch managerial vacancy has split opinion on Pep Guardiola’s availability, with Wim Kieft dismissing any realistic chance of the Spaniard taking charge of Oranje. Kieft, speaking in the KieftJansenEgmondGijp podcast, argued it would be an impossible task to lure Guardiola from Manchester City.
Rob Jansen, by contrast, remains cautiously optimistic that the former Barcelona, Bayern München and City boss could reconsider. Jansen believes Nigel de Jong, the KNVB’s director of top football, should at least make the approach.
Kieft questioned whether Guardiola would even entertain a call from the KNVB. “You don’t really believe that when Nigel de Jong rings him up and floats the idea, Guardiola will say he’ll think about it?” he said.
Jansen countered that the odds are long but not impossible. “The chance is small, but he might think differently than we do. Just because we all think Guardiola won’t do it doesn’t mean he won’t decide to look into the Dutch national team. I’m not saying it’s completely out of the question.”
Speculation has intensified since Oranje’s World Cup exit and Ronald Koeman’s subsequent departure. Arne Slot has already been approached, while Erik ten Hag and Peter Bosz are also in the frame. A prominent foreign coach remains part of the conversation.
