Jack Hendry extends contract at Al-Ettifaq, boosting Saudi defence

🇬🇧

Scotland centre-back Jack Hendry has signed a new two-year contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq. The 31‑year‑old defender, who joined the club from Club Brugge in 2023, has already made 82 appearances and earned 41 Scotland caps, and will now look to add to his tally during the next two seasons.

Al‑Ettifaq secured Hendry to reinforce a defence that has relied heavily on foreign experience. His 82 matches in Saudi Arabia demonstrate his ability to adapt to the league’s physical style. Moreover, his 41 international caps bring a level of pedigree that aligns with the club’s ambition to compete at the top of the Pro League.

Hendry began his professional journey in Celtic’s youth academy before senior spells at Partick Thistle, Dundee and a return to Celtic. He later enjoyed loan periods in Australia with Melbourne City and in Belgium with KV Oostende, before signing permanently with Oostende in 2021. His move to Club Brugge in 2023 marked his first foray into a higher‑profile European league, paving the way for the Saudi transfer.

"I'm delighted to say that I've signed a new contract," Hendry told club media. "I'm very much looking forward to spending another two seasons at the football club and hopefully it can be successful," he added.

The extension gives Al‑Ettifaq continuity in central defence as they plan for the upcoming campaign. For Hendry, the deal secures his place in a league where he has already become a regular starter. Both parties now aim to build on the experience gathered to achieve greater success on the Saudi stage.
