Juventus faces summer crossroads as Openda's exit looms

At Juventus' training ground, 26‑year‑old Loïs Openda watches his future drift as the Italian giants prepare for a summer overhaul, having logged 34 games and just two goals, while the club, relegated to the Europa League, eyes a €43 million purchase option and a possible loan or sale.

Juventus failed to qualify for the Champions League and will compete in the Europa League next season, prompting a revamp of the squad. The club has identified French striker Randal Kolo Muani as a priority target to strengthen the attack.

Openda arrived on loan from RB Leipzig with a mandatory purchase clause estimated at €43 million. The deal was intended to become permanent, but his limited output has left the option in doubt.

During his stint, Openda featured 34 times for Juventus and found the net only twice, gradually falling out of the coach's plans. His lack of impact also saw him omitted from the Belgium World Cup squad overseen by coach Rudi Garcia.

Juventus acknowledges the difficulty of recouping the full transfer fee and is open to a temporary loan as an alternative. The club hopes a move elsewhere will restore Openda's confidence and market value while reducing his wage bill. Potential suitors include Lens, where Openda previously thrived, Olympique Lyon, Rennes, and newly promoted Premier League side Coventry City. Openda remains under contract until June 2030 and is currently valued at €25 million, with a decision expected in the coming weeks.
