Kit Margetson exits Swansea as Manchester United move looms

🇬🇧

Kit Margetson has confirmed his departure from Swansea City, with the 19-year-old Wales Under-21 goalkeeper set to join Manchester United. The announcement follows months of contract talks between the Championship club and the young custodian.

The Wales youth international joined Swansea at under-15 level and progressed through the academy, though he never featured for the first team. His only senior experience came during a loan spell at Connah's Quay Nomads in the 2025-26 season, where he made regular appearances.

With his contract expiring this summer, Swansea had been in discussions with Margetson over a new agreement since May. The club confirmed they were negotiating with the player, but the goalkeeper has now indicated his time at the Liberty Stadium has concluded.

Margetson took to social media to reflect on his Swansea exit, stating: "I'm leaving with so much more than I ever imagined." He added, "This club has given me memories, lessons and moments that will stay with me for life. It's never easy to say goodbye to a place that's been such a big part of my journey."

The 19-year-old's father, Martyn Margetson, previously served as Swansea's head of goalkeeping before departing his role at the end of last season. The younger Margetson's move to Manchester United would represent a significant step in his career, transitioning from a Championship club to one of England's top sides.

Swansea's statement in May had framed the situation as ongoing discussions, but Margetson's social media post signals the end of his association with the club. The goalkeeper's departure leaves a gap in Swansea's academy ranks, particularly given his long-standing ties to the Swans.

Manchester United are expected to finalise terms with Margetson in the coming weeks, though no official announcement has been made. The move would add depth to United's goalkeeping setup and provide Margetson with a platform to further develop his career at the highest level.
