Millwall's €6m gamble on KV Mechelen midfielder Mathis Servais
Mathis Servais is set to join Millwall FC for an estimated €6 million, with the transfer confirmed by journalist Sacha Tavolieri on X. The 21‑year‑old Belgian will travel to London for his medical on Saturday before signing a five‑year contract.
Millwall pursued Servais after he became a regular fixture in KV Mechelen’s midfield, impressing with his attacking instincts and versatility. His recent performances, including two goals and four assists, raised his profile and attracted interest from abroad.
KV Mechelen benefits financially, receiving roughly €6 million—about €2 million above the €4 million market value reported by Transfermarkt. The club originally acquired Servais from SK Beveren for around €1.2 million, making the current fee a substantial profit.
During his spell at KV Mechelen, Servais featured in 34 matches, contributed two goals and four assists, and helped the team reach the Champions’ Play‑offs for the first time in club history. That successful season boosted his market value and appeal to foreign clubs.
His development began in the youth academies of Charleroi and Club Brugge, later featuring for Club NXT before earning six caps with Belgium’s U21 side. Coach Malinwa brought him to KV Mechelen from SK Beveren in September 2025, where he quickly established himself.
The move gives Millwall a young, growth‑oriented midfielder with international experience, while KV Mechelen secures a significant financial injection to reinvest in the squad.
