Online abuse targets Dutch players after World Cup exit

🇳🇱
The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has lodged a formal complaint after members of the Netherlands national team were subjected to online discriminatory remarks following their elimination from the FIFA World Cup at the hands of Morocco. The federation said the abuse undermines the sport’s core values. The KNVB’s statement identified the abusive content as directed specifically at the Dutch internationals. It was posted on social media platforms immediately after the match against Morocco. The federation highlighted that such behaviour contradicts the principles of respect and inclusion that football promotes. The complaint aims to bring the issue to the attention of authorities. A KNVB spokesperson said the conduct “stands against everything football stands for.” The official stressed that the association will not tolerate discrimination.
