Real Madrid's test: Mourinho weighs four Castilla graduates

🇪🇸

In a week’s time the Real Madrid first‑team squad will reconvene at Valdebebas to start the crucial pre‑season, giving new manager Jose Mourinho his first opportunity to assess the squad, including four Castilla graduates whose futures hinge on his verdict.

During the second half of last season, then‑head coach Alvaro Arbeloa temporarily promoted several B‑team players into his senior squad. Diario AS reported that those promoted will not return to Castilla for the 2026‑27 campaign.

The four players identified are Fran González, David Jiménez, Manuel Ángel and Cesar Palacios. All four were part of the temporary promotion and now face a decisive summer.

Real Madrid intend to sell them if they do not secure a first‑team place under Mourinho. The club frames the sale as a way to avoid stagnation and to guarantee regular senior football elsewhere.

At least two of the youngsters could reunite with Arbeloa in the Premier League, as the former coach is reportedly keen to bring them to Fulham once confirmed as head coach. The report mentions Angel and Palacios as likely candidates for the English side, with Jimenez also cited.

The strategy of off‑loading top academy talent has yielded success for Real Madrid in recent years. La Fabrica’s reputation for producing quality players underpins the club’s confidence in this approach.

Before any departures, the quartet will have the chance to impress Mourinho during pre‑season at Valdebebas. Proving themselves will be a demanding task, but it could secure their place in the first team.
