Roma’s free‑agency chase for Kessié tests Gasperini’s budget

🇮🇹

Roma have opened talks with Ivorian midfielder Kessie after the player formally submitted a free‑agency proposal to join the club, offering a potential upgrade to their midfield as they look to bolster Serie A ambitions. The move arrives on the back of Kessie’s standout World Cup performance and a recent contract termination.

During the World Cup, Kessié scored one goal and delivered several convincing displays for his national side, rekindling interest from his beloved old Serie A in Italy. Observers described his free‑agency offer as ‘not like Frattesi, but almost’, highlighting the appeal of his profile.

The Ivorian midfielder, a former AC Milan player, recently terminated his contract, creating a free‑agent window for interested clubs. La Stampa reported that Juventus also features among the likely destinations for Kessié.

Roma’s coach Gian Piero Gasperini, known as the Giallorossi manager, has long known Kessié from their time together at Atalanta, and may consider bringing the midfielder back to the capital. Atalanta could also vie for his signature, aiming to return him to the club where his Serie A career began.

However, Kessié’s high salary presents a significant hurdle for any deal, forcing Roma to weigh financial implications against the potential boost to their squad. Negotiations are expected to unfold in the coming weeks as the club assesses the player’s value.
