Tottenham table £85m bid to test Bournemouth’s resolve over Kroupi

🇬🇧

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing an £85 million bid for Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi. The 20-year-old remains unavailable, with Bournemouth making their stance clear from the south coast.

Kroupi is central to a Bournemouth side that finished sixth last season and secured Europa League qualification for the first time. At 20, he has already scored 13 Premier League goals in 33 appearances, earning a PFA Young Player of the Year nomination and France Under-21 recognition.

Tottenham’s summer spending has already reached £320 million. This includes £85 million for Mateus Fernandes, £100 million for Sandro Tonali, and £50 million for Jan Paul van Hecke at Brighton. Free transfers for Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka complete a squad overhaul.

According to Alex Crook, Tottenham are not responding to an opening but testing Bournemouth’s resolve with a potential £85 million bid. Crook added that Arsenal are among Kroupi’s suitors, highlighting his demand in the market.

Bournemouth’s public line remains firm. Crook stated that the message from the Vitality Stadium is that Kroupi is not for sale this summer, reinforcing their stance. The club are building under Roberto De Zerbi, not stripping assets for convenience.

Kroupi joined Bournemouth in February 2025 on a five-and-a-half year deal, giving the club no immediate need to sell. With no contract pressure or football reason to weaken before a first European campaign, Bournemouth’s position is understandable.

Tottenham’s interest aligns with their need for another forward. Crook suggested that Richarlison’s departure could follow if Kroupi arrives, indicating a clear squad logic behind the pursuit.

The key questions now are whether Tottenham will proceed with the £85 million bid and whether Bournemouth can hold firm. Bournemouth’s resistance appears strong, but big fees often shift the tone of negotiations.

From Tottenham’s perspective, Kroupi represents a serious talent, not hype. His 13 Premier League goals at 20 for a side with high expectations is tangible evidence of his readiness to contribute now and improve later.

The price tag is substantial, but Tottenham’s recruitment team appear to see a player worth the investment. Waiting another year could escalate the cost or close the door entirely, making early action a strategic necessity.

Squad logic also plays a role. If Richarlison departs, Tottenham need a forward who can stretch play, score in the league, and grow into a bigger role. Kroupi fits that profile, being young, English-adapted, and in demand.
