Twente's bid for de Lange clashes with Marseille contract

🇳🇱

FC Twente have launched a fresh attempt to re‑sign goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange, who is currently serving as the backup to Geronimo Rulli at Olympique Marseille, where his contract runs until the summer of 2027, L’Équipe reported on Sunday today.

De Lange was under contract with FC Twente from 2017 to 2022 after the club signed him transfer‑free from Ajax’s youth system. During that spell he managed three first‑team appearances for the Grolsch Veste side.

Technical director Erik ten Hag has already reached out to Olympique Marseille about a possible transfer, according to L’Équipe. noted that Ten Hag also queried FC Volendam for Kayne van Oevelen before turning his attention to De Lange.

De Lange’s contract with Marseille runs until the summer of 2027. He featured in eight matches for the French club last season, while Geronimo Rulli remains the first‑choice goalkeeper. The Dutch keeper has expressed a willingness to return to the Netherlands for personal reasons.

FC Twente already have German goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall on their books. It remains unclear how De Lange’s arrival would affect Unnerstall’s position.

After swapping Twente for Go Ahead Eagles in 2022, De Lange enjoyed two successful seasons in De Adelaarshorst. Marseille secured his services in the summer of 2024 by paying a reported two million euros to Go Ahead.

Jari De Busser succeeded De Lange at Go Ahead and transferred to AZ this summer. De Lange recently indicated openness to a return to Ajax, although the Amsterdam club appears to be strengthening with Marc‑André ter Stegen.

Should the clubs fail to reach an agreement, Twente have signalled they will look at other options. The contrasting scenarios leave De Lange’s next destination uncertain.
