Borggräfe’s Leverkusen loan extended for Frauen-Bundesliga return
Liverpool goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe will remain on loan at Bayer Leverkusen for the 2026/2027 Frauen-Bundesliga season. The 26-year-old German keeper’s extension was confirmed via an official post on Liverpool’s club website earlier today. She spent the second half of last season at the Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion and that arrangement has now been extended for the entirety of the upcoming campaign.
Borggräfe joined Liverpool on a free transfer last summer after leaving SC Freiburg in Germany. During her first half-season with The Reds, she made four appearances before receiving a six-game ban following an incident at a pre-season camp. The ban was served and all parties moved forward from the matter.
Liverpool’s exodus forces Reds to confront a shifting market
After returning to Germany, Borggräfe made 10 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, keeping two clean sheets. Her contributions helped the club secure a fifth-place finish in the German top flight last season. Leverkusen now aim to push for European football in the upcoming campaign with Borggräfe in goal. With Borggräfe out on loan, Liverpool are expected to strengthen their goalkeeping ranks before the new Barclays Women’s Super League season begins.
