Charleroi seal permanent exit for Žan Rogelj to Wisła Płock

🇧🇪

Sporting Charleroi announced on Thursday that Slovenian left‑back Žan Rogelj, who spent the 2023‑24 season on loan at Wisła Płock, has been transferred permanently to the Polish Ekstraklasa side, which finished eighth in the last campaign. The move follows a successful spell in Poland where Rogelj recorded three goals and three assists.

"The season last, his loan at Wisła Płock allowed him to deliver convincing performances and confirm all his qualities, convincing the Polish directors and both clubs to continue collaboration by a definitive transfer," the club wrote.

"Sporting Charleroi thanks Žan for his professionalism, his investment and his impeccable attitude throughout his stay. His commitment under the zebra colours was appreciated by the staff, his teammates and our supporters," the statement added.

Rogelj arrived free from Austria in 2023 and immediately faced strong competition on the right flank. He started his first season in Belgium under coach Felice Mazzù before becoming a backup to Jérémie Pétris, who was a key figure on that side.

When Pétris departed for Watford last summer, Kevin Van den Kerkhof seized the right‑back role, leaving Rogelj with limited playing time. Consequently, Rogelj was loaned to Wisła Płock, while Lewin Blum arrived on loan from Young Boys Berne to cover the backup position.

The activation of Van den Kerkhof's purchase option , should Rogelj return to Charleroi, he would not be expected to hold a leading role in the squad.

During his Ekstraklasa loan, Rogelj posted three goals and three assists, surpassing the combined output of his two previous seasons at Charleroi. The former Slovenian international, capped three times, is now seeking a new challenge with one year remaining on his Charleroi contract.

Motor Lublin was mentioned as a possible destination, but journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk Wisła Płock will complete the permanent transfer by exercising the purchase option negotiated with Charleroi a year ago. An agreement with the player has been reached.

Rogelj is expected to sign the permanent contract shortly and will continue to represent the eighth‑placed Polish side in the upcoming season.
