The deal was finalised in the early hours of Tuesday, with the Amsterdam club set to receive €24 million plus up to €3 million in potential add-ons, sell-on percentage as part of the agreement. Sean Steur is scheduled to fly to England on Tuesday and, pending a medical, will sign a contract running until mid-2031 at St James’ Park. Newcastle completed the move following the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur. De described the deal as ‘a gift from heaven’ for Ajax, a view echoed by . ‘Ajax was willing to move quickly to free up budget to pursue several targets,’ VI noted. ‘Once Steur signs on Tuesday, the expectation is that Ajax will go straight into the market.’ Jordi Cruijff, the club’s technical director, has made it clear he wants to assemble a squad capable of challenging PSV and Feyenoord for the championship.
